Optimal maintenance policy for non-stationary deteriorating systems subject to varying factors
作成日時 04/2013–03/2017
Offer Organization: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, System Name: Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Category: Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Fund Type: -, Overall Grant Amount: - (direct: 2500000, indirect: 750000)
This project investigates the optimal maintenance decision-making problem for deteriorating systems operating in a variable environment with selectable operations. Since there are strong dynamic interactions among a deteriorating system, its surrounding environment, and the operation being executed, this project formulates the optimal decision-making problem for this system as a non-stationary Markov decision process. The structural properties of the resulting optimal expected cost function are examined, and the optimal maintenance policy is found to be given by a control limit policy under certain conditions. Based on the obtained control limit structure, an algorithm is provided for searching the optimal maintenance policy for a deterioration system under a varying environment. Such maintenance policy enhances the dynamic decision-making process for deteriorating systems operating in a variable environment, and supports the implementation of a system-specific maintenance plan.

Optimal Procedure for Condition Monitoring Maintenance
作成日時 2007–2010
Offer Organization: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, System Name: Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Category: Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists (B), Fund Type: -, Overall Grant Amount: - (direct: 2700000, indirect: 540000)
This research investigated an optimal maintenance problem with incomplete observations and showed that, when the transition probability matrix (P) has the stochastic increasing (SI) property, the optimal procedure is given by a monotone procedure if and only if the conditional probability matrix (Γ) is given by an identity matrix. This research brings to a close over 50 years of research on ways to extend the optimality of monotone procedure on the basis of SI ordering of the state probability vectors.
Furthermore, this research studied the optimal structure identification problem for a monitoring system with multiple sensors and identified a necessary and sufficient condition under which a k-out-of-n structure is optimal in terms of minimizing the expected risk. This means that, fewer structures need to be considered when searching for the optimal one.

Results are summarized into the following four categories:
1. System for Prevention of Quality and Safety Problems and Their Organization and Management Factors
To prevent quality and reliability problems, a system which consists of seven steps is proposed and the importance of the following organizational and management factors is discussed : (1) Quality FLEA, Customer First Principle, (2) Culture which Can Open Problems, (3) Adaptation for Change, (4) Information Sharing and Communication, (5) Confidence on Each Member, (6) Ethics, Engineering and Education, (7) CSR Consciousness.
2. Accumulation of Stress-Failure mechanism-Failure modes and its information sharing
If one cannot predict a risk in future, one cannot prevent it. Therefore, prevention based on prediction is important From this point of view, the method of prediction is discussed focusing on stress-failure mechanism-failure modes.
3. Fail-safe and Error Proof for Prevention of Problems
Even for long-time experienced products in the market such as gas stoves, oil fan heaters, etc., they have to operate safely. In this case, fail safe design which fails safely when it fails must be applied. This method is discussed. Also, it is impossible to eliminate human errors completely. For this, error proof technique is a key. Focusing on information processing of human, systematic error proof methods are proposed.
4. Investigation of Condition Monitoring Maintenance with Information Technology
Condition monitoring maintenance plays an important role in preventing the failures of huge and complex systems. This research investigated an optimal policy for a condition monitoring system which comprises multiple sensors, and derived a necessary and sufficient condition under which an optimal procedure is given by a monotone procedure for both cases of independent and depend observations. This condition is given by the conditional probability matrix, which describes the relationship of sensors' observations and system's true state, having a property of Totally Positive of order 2 (TP_2)/ Weak Multivariate Likelihood Ratio (Weak-MLR) property for the case of independent/dependent observation.
