Dr. Yasushi Yamao (yyamao@m.ieice.org) received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1977, 1979, and 1998, respectively.
In 1979, he joined the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) Laboratories, Japan, where his major activities included research on the GMSK modulator / demodulator and GaAs RF ICs for digital mobile communications, and development of PDC digital cellular handheld phones. In 1993, he moved to NTT DoCoMo, Inc., where he conducted standardization and development of the FLEX-TD high-speed paging system. From 1999 to 2002, he conducted studies on the fourth generation mobile communications system and was involved in the European Commission’s 5th Framework Program IST project BRAIN. He was Vice President and Managing Director of Radio Systems Development Department, NTT DoCoMo, Inc (2004-2005). He is the author and a co-author of more than 50 transaction and conference papers and holds more than 60 patents in the area of mobile communications.
He is a member of IEEE and IEICE, and served as Vice Chairman of the IEICE Technical Group on Radio Communication Systems (2001-2002) and Vice President of the IEICE Communications Society (2003-2004). He also served as the TPC member of many international conferences such as the IEEE PIMRC 2002,2003,2004,2005, 2006, WPMC03, and MDMC2004.
